A former fishing village, today Marmari is a beautiful, peaceful and small seaside resort which attracts families in search of the typical traditional Greek atmosphere. It is only 15km from Kos Town but has an extensive golden sandy-pebbly beach where, in the west it forms into small sand dunes. The waters are crystal clear and one of the most beautiful in Kos and has been awarded a Blue Flag. The larger town of Tigaki is nearby and at the beach of Tigaki there are plenty of water sports such as windsurfing and sailing as well as opportunities to go cycling or horse riding. A riding school is located between the beach of Tigaki and the beach of Marmari. From either village it is possible to follow paths and country lanes into the green and fertile interior of the island or head up to the mountain communities of Asfendiou or Pyli. There is practically no nightlife at Marmari having only two cafes a bar and a tranquil cocktail bar.
